Today we're taking a look at the Ghosthood Ghillie Short: a lightweight, compact, breathable, quick-drying alternative to the traditional cobra hood or viper hood.

Who Actually Needs This?

It's a lot more people than it used to be.

Rear safe areas don't exist anymore, as anyone watching Ukraine or the Middle East will know. Anyone operating within 200 kilometres of the front now realistically needs some way to reduce their visual signature. Eyes in the sky are a constant, and hiding from them has gone from a specialist concern to something a much broader range of operators need to think about.

What Is It?

The Ghosthood Ghillie Short is built to do the job of a traditional ghillie hood without the weight, bulk and heat retention that usually comes with one.

At 330g, it's genuinely lightweight. It's extremely breathable, it dries quickly, and it packs down small enough that carrying it isn't a burden on your kit. It's finished in Ghosthood's CONCAMO camouflage pattern, engineered for visual and NIR signature reduction, with a high-quality IRR print that holds up under night vision.

The CFIX Attachment System

Hanging off the hood you'll notice what looks like loose strands of material. These are Ghosthood's CFIX attachment points.

Each one is a loop running through the middle with strands either side. If you're working with thin vegetation, thread it straight through the middle. If not, tie it off to the hood itself. Either way, it's a fast, simple system for layering natural vegetation over the CONCAMO pattern, so you can tailor your camouflage to whatever environment you're actually operating in.

Built to Move With You

Up top there's a foldable hood, designed to be worn over headwear or a helmet. You just pull it straight over.

It also comes with a mesh face cover. That's there to further break up the outline of your face, which is exactly what the human eye is trained to pick out first. You still get plenty of visibility and situational awareness through it, but if you don't want to use it, it tucks back in on itself and drapes over whatever you've got on your head instead.

One tip if you've worn ghillies or viper hoods before: wear a baseball cap underneath. It keeps the hood off your face and out of your eyeline. Skip it, and you'll find the hood tends to obscure your vision more than it should.

Who Should Be Wearing This?

Anyone whose role puts them within reach of aerial or long-range observation and who needs to reduce that risk without adding weight or bulk to their loadout.

That's now a far wider group than just snipers and recon. As the front line shows, it extends to anyone operating forward.
